What You're Actually Paying For
A garage door panel replacement is more than swapping a steel sheet. The price covers four components: the panel itself, the labor to remove the damaged section and install the new one, the color match (often the trickiest part), and any track or strut adjustments needed because hail rarely hits just one thing. After major Front Range storms in Aurora, Castle Rock, Centennial, Parker, and Highlands Ranch, we run 30–50 panel replacements a week, and the price bands below are within a fair price of where 90% of jobs land.

What Affects the
Brand and Model Match
If your existing door is a current-production Amarr Hillcrest, Clopay Premium, or Wayne Dalton 9800, we can usually source matching panels in 2–5 business days from regional warehouses. If your door is discontinued — common for tract builds from 1995–2010 — we either source a close visual match or recommend full-door replacement. About 18% of our hail panel jobs end up as full-door replacements purely because of match difficulty, not damage extent.
Color Match
Standard factory colors (white, almond, sandstone, brown) come in stock. Custom colors (Cherry Creek bronze, Castle Pines charcoal, Boulder slate) often require factory orders with 3–6 week lead times. We can paint-match in-field as part of the same visit–a fair price per panel using two-part automotive enamel, which is what we did for most of the 2025 Colorado Springs jobs where matching factory color wasn't available fast enough.
Position on the Door
The bottom panel (section 1) is the most common hail-damage location because wind-driven hail rebounds off the driveway. It's also the easiest to replace because we can drop it out the bottom without disturbing the upper panels, springs, or opener. Top panel (section 4) replacement is harder because we need to detach the opener arm and lift the upper assembly — adds a fair price–a fair price in labor.
Track / Strut Damage
Hail rarely hits panels alone. We assess the tracks for dents and the bottom strut for bowing. Track replacement adds a fair price–a fair price per side. Bottom strut replacement adds a fair price–a fair price. These are not optional — bent tracks cause future binding and noise.
Multi-Panel Discounts
When 2+ panels need replacement, the per-panel labor cost drops because we're already on-site with the door disassembled. Typical multi-panel pricing on a 16′ double-car door:

When Panel Replacement Stops Making Sense
At three panels of damage on a four-panel door, the math typically favors full-door replacement. Reasons: (1) the fourth panel will fade differently from the three new ones, (2) labor approaches the cost of installing a fresh door, (3) tracks and hardware are often near end-of-life on doors that suffered widespread hail, and (4) you get a fresh manufacturer warranty on the whole door instead of just panel-level coverage.
Front Range Surge Pricing — Does It Exist?
After major hail events (1.5″+ across multiple ZIPs), demand for panels spikes. We do not raise prices during hail surges, but parts availability tightens, so lead times stretch from 2–5 days to 7–14 days. Custom-color panels in particular can hit 4–6 weeks during peak post-storm weeks. Booking early (within 48 hours of the storm) usually gets you into the first wave of parts orders.
